guidance and why
This page is meant to help guide you on what courses you need to take throughout your 4 years of high school. Throughout this page, the A-G Requirements will be mentioned. If a course on the 'Course Descriptions' page is described as an A-G Requirement, it means that the class was approved by UC/CSU as a college preparatory course that is needed to be eligible for college admissions. Don't worry too much though, you can always speak to your academic coordinator about what classes you were thinking of taking or had questions about. Our academic coordinators are friendly and understanding so don't be afraid to ask them any questions that you might still have about classes after reading this page and the 'Course Descriptions' page.
Gusd graduation requirements- community service
For schools in the Gilroy Unified School District, there are certain requirements in terms of class credits and community service hours that you'll need to successfully graduate and receive a diploma. The first and most difficult thing that you need to graduate is, wait for it... 80 hours of community service. For all who like to overachieve, If you go all the way to achieve 160 hours, you get a special cord at graduation. However, the class of 2022 only needs 55 community service hours, the class of 2023 needs 55 hours, and 60 hours for the class of 2024. The class of 2025 still needs the normal 80 hours because freshman year would have been the first year back in person and therefore, they have the full scope of opportunities to complete their hours. Due to the covid-19 pandemic and online classes, some of the community service hour requirements got cut down to better accommodate the students here at Christopher High. Other than these 3 graduating classes, everybody else will have the usual 80 hours. Please keep in mind that there is also a community service requirement to attend school dances.
When completing your community service hours, you need to have carried them out in at least 2 different categories. The different categories of community service being: Senior Citizens, Young Children, Disabled Citizens, School Related, The Environment, The Homeless, Literacy, Animal Care, Promoting Health and Fitness and Promoting the Arts and Culture. To graduate, you need to have a minimum of 10 hours in 2 of these categories (10 hours each). This rule mainly applies for Seniors before May 1st but you still need to have community service in at least 2 different categories.
